You want riffs? You want anthems? You want drama, dirt, and defiance? Queen’s News of the World delivered all of that in 1977 and still punches harder than most records in your collection. This is the album that kicked the door down with “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” — stadium-sized stompers that never got old, even if they got overplayed. But dig deeper and you’ll find way more than just the hits.
Freddie’s on fire here — snarling, crooning, commanding. Brian May’s riffs bite and his solos soar. “Sheer Heart Attack” (yes, that one) is proto-punk madness, while “It’s Late” and “Spread Your Wings” show the band could throw down emotionally and technically. Even the weird stuff hits — “Get Down, Make Love” is pure sleaze, and “Sleeping on the Sidewalk” is May doing gritty barroom blues.
This here is the original 1977 UK cassette release on EMI, with a 2-panel inlay printed both sides, housed in that beautiful off-white shell with black on-body print — a format that’s all hiss, heart, and nostalgia. Condition is VG/VG+, which means it’s got some miles on it, but still rolls true.
This ain’t just a classic rock album — it’s Queen at their most raw, weird, and rocking. If you’ve only heard this one through Spotify playlists, do yourself a favor and hear it the way someone did in ’77: on tape, loud, and with the rewind button hot.
